June 3rd -- Sedbergh, Cumbria | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Full coach. No rain, bit humid, but another great day out. Buttercup meadows and lush hedgerows, rivers flowing after the previous days downpour. Ice creams all round for the C walkers + fell ponies with their foals. Sedbergh (pronounced Sedber) was quiet, with plenty of room in the pubs at end of the walk. | |||||
The A walk dropped off at Slacks Lane about a mile West of Sedbergh and headed up to Winder, The Calf, down past Cautley Spout and back into Sedbergh along the "Pennine Journey" path. | |||||

The 2nd B walk started with a sharp ascent up onto Winder Fell via Dales Way with beautiful views of Sedbergh, the Lune valley, Morecombe Bay and the Howgills, where ponies promised by our leader materialised on cue. Then lower down through beautiful buttercup carpeted fields, along flower edged footpaths to our lunch stop at Lune viaduct from where we saw the C party below us. Then along the river through pretty villages until we reached Sedbergh for much needed refreshment at the The Red Lion which is situated opposite the ancient parish church of St Andrew. | |||||

The C walk followed the Dales Way along the rivers Rawthey and Lune before a gentle climb onto the lower slopes of the Howgills with fine views of the surrounding fells and valleys. | |||||
